Title: Local struggles and resilience: decarbonization, transition to renewable energy, grassroots practices – case of Upper Silesia

Abstract: In the paper, we will want to introduce the concept of decarbonization of culture, reaching both to the official nomenclature related to the energy transformation, and to the cultural dictionary of climate change. We will show how in Polish culture, despite the lack of top-down solutions, many bottom-up decarbonization practices are being created, such as art exhibitions, animation projects, and the activities of post-mining informal groups. In this way, the bottom-up decarbonization culture becomes a Polish specificity and the result of the lack of a single government program for decarbonization and the lack of defining the decarbonization culture itself. This lack also results from the conviction that culture does not have to accompany the energy change and is not a part of social practices facilitating the energy trauma, which in Poland is the departure from the coal monoculture.
