Forecasting the Future: Academia Europaea Sponsors Energy Finance Workshop

The Academia Europaea Wrocław Knowledge Hub is delighted to announce its sponsorship of the upcoming Energy Finance Christmas Workshop (EFC25), to be held in Wrocław, Poland, on 11–12 December 2025.

This cherished annual event has grown into a leading forum for scholars, researchers, and industry experts exploring the evolving landscape of Energy Finance. Over the years, the workshop has become a unique platform to exchange ideas on a wide range of topics, including:

• Forecasting of energy prices, demand, wind and solar generation
• Probabilistic forecasting and risk assessment
• Trading strategies and economic evaluation
• Pricing and hedging of commodity derivatives
• Integration of renewables and their influence on electricity markets
• Weather derivatives
• Real options analysis for energy investments

EFC25 will be hosted by Katarzyna Maciejowska and Bartosz Uniejewski form Wrcolaw University of Science and Technology, continuing the tradition of an informal, research-focused atmosphere that fosters open discussions and collaboration across disciplines.

A Tradition of Innovation and Collaboration

The origins of the Energy Finance Christmas Workshops date back to 2011, when Professor and Academia Eurpaea member Rafał Weron brought together professors Stefan Trück and Sjur Westgaard for a seminar in Wrocław. The enthusiastic response and timing just before the holidays sparked the idea for an annual workshop. Since then, EFC has traveled the globe, with recent editions hosted in Sydney (2024), Kyoto (2023), and Dublin (2019), among others.

What began as a spontaneous academic gathering has blossomed into a vibrant, self-sustaining community. The series has also inspired several successful spin-off events and minisymposia, further advancing dialogue in this fast-changing field.
