Growing our presence in the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN)
More of our scientists have joined the ranks of the Polska Akademia Nauk (PAN). By decision of PAN’s General Assembly, full membership was granted to Prof. Marek Samoć (Faculty of Chemistry) and Prof. Arkadiusz Wójs (Faculty of Fundamental Problems of Technology). Meanwhile, new corresponding members include Prof. Marcin Drąg (Faculty of Chemistry) and Prof. Michał Woźniak (Faculty of Computer Science and Telecommunications).
The elections for new full and corresponding members of PAN were held in Warsaw on 26 June. The elected researchers joined a group of more than 300 scientists distinguished by outstanding academic achievements and wide respect in the scholarly community.

Thirty of the former corresponding members of PAN were elevated to full-member status. Among them are two from our university: Prof. Arkadiusz Wójs and Prof. Marek Samoć, both now representing Division III (Exact and Earth Sciences) of PAN.
Within the batch of 45 newly appointed corresponding members, we also count two from our university: Marcin Drąg (Division III) and Michał Woźniak (Division IV – Technical Sciences).
To be nominated as a full or corresponding member, a candidate must stand out through academic achievement and reputation, and have an unblemished professional standing. Membership in PAN is lifelong, and the total number of full and corresponding members cannot exceed 350 people.
Strong Representation from Wrocław University of Science and Technology
Currently, eight people from Wrocław University of Science and Technology (PWr) are members of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN). In addition to Prof. Wójs and Prof. Samoć, full membership also includes Prof. Janusz Mroczka from the Faculty of Electronics, Photonics and Microsystems (Division IV – Technical Sciences).
The group of corresponding members from our university is completed by Prof. Ewaryst Rafajłowicz from the Faculty of Computer Science and Telecommunications (Division IV – Technical Sciences), Prof. Krzysztof Bogdan from the Faculty of Mathematics (Division III – Exact and Earth Sciences), and Prof. Teodor Gotszalk from the Faculty of Electronics, Photonics and Microsystems (Division IV – Technical Sciences).
