On October 23rd, the Academia Europaea Wrocław Hub will welcome Prof. Dr. Günther Hasinger—an internationally renowned astrophysicist and the scientific director of the German Centre for Astrophysics in Görlitz. His lecture, Cosmic Multimessenger Signals and the German Centre for Astrophysics, promises to transport the audience to the cutting edge of modern science.
For centuries, astronomy relied on one source of information: light. Today, entirely new ways of listening to the Universe are reshaping how we see the cosmos. These breakthroughs are unlocking phenomena once thought hidden forever—opening doors to discoveries that could change our understanding of reality itself.

About Prof. Dr. Günther Hasinger
Born in 1954 in Oberammergau, Prof. Dr. Günther Hasinger is an internationally recognized X-ray astronomer. During his career, he has directed some of the world’s most influential institutions, including the Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics in Potsdam, the Max Planck Institutes for Extraterrestrial Physics and Plasma Physics, the Institute for Astronomy at the University of Hawaii, and the Directorate of Science at the European Space Agency.
His research has focused on the cosmological evolution of black holes and the nature of dark matter, leading to groundbreaking discoveries and recognition with prestigious awards such as the Leibniz Prize of the German Research Foundation and the COSPAR Award for contributions to space research. He is a member of several scientific academies, including Academia Europaea, and has shared his knowledge with broader audiences through acclaimed books such as The Fate of the Universe and, more recently, Die Geschichte des Universums.
In his Wrocław lecture, Prof. Hasinger will show show how multimessenger astrophysics is not just about unlocking cosmic mysteries, but also about shaping the future of science, technology, and society.
