Title: Netzwerk Naturwissen – new local alliances for tackling the crises (a showcase from Germany)

Abstract: The Netzwerk Naturwissen – network nature knowledge – is a transdisciplinary network focussing on the co-production of knowledge around the current global ecological crises with a local focus on Berlin and Brandenburg, thus combining perspectives from rural and urban backgrounds. The pulse of the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin to cross its boundaries and to bond new ties based on trust lies at the very center of this young initiative. The urge to form new alliances is a shared common with our partners and partner-institutions from various backgrounds, i.e. academic institutions, broadcasting stations, theaters, organizations in the field of conservation, nature education, global health and activists. Together we use our potential to create projects that activate and create awareness on the topic of biodiversity loss and extinction through different means. For this purpose, places of negotiation and encounter are created that serve as starting points for new ideas and new stories. The process and diffusion of innovative ideas is documented through participatory mapping and multimedia visualization that find their way into the project website Atlas Naturwissen – a unifying element of the network. The Netzwerk Naturwissen, its projects and the process of creating the Atlas Naturwissen are examples of co-productive work and multi-perspective knowledge transfer that contribute to building resilience to environmental crises. Here it becomes clear that transdisciplinary cooperation between different sectors of society is essential to successfully master the challenges of the multiple crises. “Netzwerk Naturwissen”, Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, Leibniz-Zentrum für Evolutions- und Biodiversitätsforschung
