Leszek Koczanowicz
Leszek Koczanowicz, philosopher, cultural theorist and political scientist, is a professor at SWPS University. His work focuses on cultural theory, social theory, and the cultural dimensions of politics. He has previously held positions at the University of Wrocław, the State University of New York at Buffalo, Columbia University in New York, the State University of New York at Geneseo, and the Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies.
He is the author and editor of thirteen books in Polish and English, as well as numerous articles published in both languages, including:
Politics of Time: Dynamics of Identity in Post-Communist Poland (Berghahn Books 2008; Polish edition: Wydawnictwo Naukowe DSW 2008), Lęk nowoczesny. Eseje o demokracji i jej adwersarzach [Modern Anxiety: Essays on Democracy and Its Adversaries] (Universitas 2012), Politics of Dialogue: Non-Consensual Democracy and Critical Community (Edinburgh University Press 2015; Polish edition: PWN 2016), and Anxiety and Lucidity: Reflections on Culture in Times of Unrest (Routledge 2020; Polish edition: Wydawnictwo IBL 2020).
In March 2022, his book Niedokończone polityki: demokracja, populizm, autokracja [Unfinished Politics: Democracy, Populism, Autocracy] was published by Wydawnictwo Pasaże, and in November 2023, The Emancipatory Power of the Body in Everyday Life: Niches of Liberation appeared with Palgrave. He will be a member of the School of Social Science at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton during the 2024/25 academic year.
