Maciej SaĆaga
Bio: Chair of the Polish Young Academy and a board member of the Young Academies Science Advice Structure (YASAS). He obtained his PhD degree in experimental medicine from the Department of Biochemistry at the Medical University of Lodz. Currently, he holds the position of professor at the same university. The goal of his research is to characterise novel molecular mechanisms that may be targeted in the treatment of gastrointestinal (GI) diseases. In his studies, he focuses on functional and inflammatory disorders of the GI tract. He is also interested in the regulation of G protein signalling in the gut, including RGS proteins and their effect on opioid, cannabinoid, as well as serotonin receptor cascades, their ligands and degrading enzymes. Prof. Maciej Salaga is a co-author of 45 original papers and 36 review articles and book chapters with a total H index of 24 (sum of times cited 1500). He has also been invited to give oral presentations about his research at several international conferences, including the European Opioid Conference 2013 held in Guildford, UK, 7th Joint Meeting on Medicinal Chemistry 2013 Lublin, Poland, and United European Gastroenterology Week 2016, Vienna, Austria. He was a member of the Young Talent Group of the United European Gastroenterology. He completed fellowships in the following research centres: Neurobiology Research Unit, University of Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark.
