Paolo Papale
Bio: Born in 1964, Italian, Paolo Papale received his degree at the University of Pisa in 1990 with full honours, and since then started his scientific career which led him to the position of Research Director at INGV in 2003. From 2005 to 2010, he directed the national programme in volcanic hazards. In 2013, he became the first Director of the newly established INGV Division on Volcanoes, a post he held until 2016. From 2007 to 2011, he was President of the GMPV (Geochemistry, Petrology, Mineralogy, and Volcanology) Division of the EGU – European Geosciences Union, and member of the EGU Council. Since 2011, he has been a member of the Academia Europaea, Chair of the Earth and Cosmic Sciences section from 2017 to 2022, and Chair of the Class of Exact Sciences and Member of the Board of Trustees since January 2022. Since 2023, he has been Fellow (Honorary Member) of the IUGG – International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics. Member or Chair of international award and medal committees, Coordinator or PI of many European and international projects, member of review panels for US/NSF, EU/ERC and other excellence projects, supervisor of tens of graduating, doctoral and postdoctoral students.
