Prof. Rafał Weron, PhD

Prof. Rafał Weron, PhD, is recognized as one of the world’s leading experts in energy market forecasting. He is a member of Academia Europaea and the head of Department of Operations Research and Business Intelligence at the Faculty of Management at Wrocław University of Science and Technology. He introduced the Quantile Regression Averaging (QRA) method to literature and business practice, which was later used by two winning teams in the Global Energy Forecasting Competition 2014. He also developed the NBEATSx architecture, enabling the interpretation of components in a deep neural network used for forecasting energy prices. In 2023, Forbes recognized this as one of the five most important developmental directions in Deep Tech. Prof. Weron is the author of highly regarded scientific publications, including review articles on electricity price forecasting that promote the rigorous application of methods, error metrics, and statistical tests. He has received the Emerald Citation of Excellence Award and the International Institute of Forecasters award. His works are included on the Web of Science Highly Cited Papers list.
